Science, gender, art and augmented reality are combined in this initiative of the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) and the València City Council’s Las Naves. Under the supervision of UPV research and teaching staff and of specialists in mural painting, and with the participation of Valencian women illustrators and women graphic artists, several locations in the city and in the UPV campus will be converted into outdoor museums, with murals dedicated to women of reference in the world of science.
This project combines scientific culture, gender, art, new technologies, accessibility and inclusion... With it, we want to contribute to making women researchers visible, but in a way that is innovative... and permanent. The walls of the UPV and València’s neighbourhoods will become open-air museums in which we can discover –or rediscover– some of the most outstanding women scientists in history.
Women of Science is an app that allows you to discover through augmented reality, a quizz of questions or biographies the main milestones of great researchers. In addition, a map is included to discover the location of the murals that are part of the Women of Science project.
